Not Since Moses 2016

…… or Today’s Costume: Runner.

Tide's Out

Tide’s Out

It’s that time of year again: the time when the tides are so extraordinarily low that you can run a race on the ocean floor without getting, like Pharaoh’s army, drownded. It’s called Not Since Moses. It is a kind of insanity really; not a race for anyone who is overly concerned about their pace or time. It is just pain fun for folk of all ages and shapes and sizes. That should have said “plain” not “pain” – a Freudian slip if I ever saw one!! Here are a few pics. Click on any picture for a larger view.

...and we're off. As you can see I am far from the head of the pack.

There is some water to cross. This is NOT the River Jordan. I don’t plan to be crossing that one for at least another 40 years.

We are heading out around the headland and the going is getting rough.

A warm welcome from the volunteers at the water station at the midway point where we turn for the return 2.5 K.

And we go back from whence we came.

The tall fellow is a 10 K runner. They started further up the shore so this would be his 7.5 k mark.

The scenery was spectacular as was the camaraderie.

The end is in sight.

The end is in sight. I passed this lady to become the 229th of the 361 5K runners to cross the line. Not bad for an old girl.

I did much better this year coming in 22nd in my class, up from 44th last year. My time suffered from all the breaks I took from running to take pictures. It really is a barrel of fun. Overheard on the course “This is nothing like a five kilometre run in the city” and “You can’t ever really get this until you do it” and “I LOST MY SHOE!!” You should give it a try. Come camp with us at Five Islands Resort Campground in NS. It’s under new management and although the number of washrooms hasn’t increased and it cost a loonie for a shower, the unsettling atmosphere of the angst of the former owners has gone out with the tide.
