Progress has been made but things are going to get ugly for a while.
I have an icky gooey mess right now but it will be set up and solid by tomorrow and then the real detailing can begin. No, don’t worry, that’s not the final size of her head! I’m suspecting she’ll be short and plump, a lot like someone I know. There’s also some seashells in the works.

I think it looks amazing! We have a new sculpture studio here in Oskaloosa which I hope to take some classes from, but it is metal sculpture. I will have to ask if they can/will do concrete.
The concrete is interesting because you are building up from nothing. Metal would be the same. All other sculpture I have done involves taking substance away from the wood/stone blank. I’m having a hard time just doing the structural support without trying to make it look like the final piece, if that makes sense. Thankfully we have a great instructor. All in all it is an excellent exercise for the imagination.
I think it looks really good, and I can’t wait to see the continued progress. It looks like it’s very difficult.
I certainly wouldn’t call it easy but the degree of difficulty is partly determined by the subject you choose. One of the very experienced participants came up to me today and said “Please remind me if I do this again not to choose something that is symmetrical!” A human figure is definitely challenging and at times today I wished I’d chosen to build a toadstool. The upside of working with concrete is that it takes a while to cure fully so it is easy to repair mistakes. I spent the first hour this morning knocking off bits I didn’t like.
