….or The Song My Paddle Sings
Well, as the coats of varnish go slowly onto the Expedition Wherry one by one I found time to pretty up and launch Paddle Song.
Other than the workboats she was the first one in at the marina. No, I know, it’s not a competition.
She looked pretty spiffy at the dock.
But over-night she took on a little water until she plimmed up.
A quick pump and all was ready to go. I was pretty keen to get out for the first row of the season to try out my new gadget: a rear-view mirror which clips to the sidepiece of one’s eyeglasses.
I headed out past the mill
and into the middle of the harbour where I could see Fort Point lighthouse behind me (and yes it was visible in the teenie tiny mirror)
and out toward the open sea.
Funny, I’m on the water but the ducks are heading inland.
Plimmed – term used in Newfoundland to describe the expansion of wood to amke a boat or a barrel watertight after it absorbs water.
