Christmas 2020 – Day 2

On the second day of Christmas

My true love gave to me….

Two tartan kilts* (He might have to wait until next Christmas for a sporran as I daresay the post from Scotland is pretty slow with the covid.)

and a pair of long rubber boots.

*That would be the Newfoundland tartan on the left. The colours represent: green for the green pines (I recall a heckuva lot more spruce than pine in Newfoundland but perhaps we cut them all down), white for the snow, brown for the Iron Isle, which is Bell Island (not to be confused with Belle Isle), and the red for the royal standard (flag). Personally I would have made it red, blue, yellow and white to represent my favourite edible berries found on the island against a backdrop of spring snow, but no one asked my opinion. On the right is the Nova Scotian tartan; blue and white for the surf ridden shores, green for the forests, red for the royal lion on the arms of Nova Scotia (that would be the coat of arms, Nova scotia doesn’t have arms. Or legs) and gold for the royal charter. Please note that Cape Breton Island has its own tartan.

Well, Halifax has a Northwest Arm, and I bet there are others–perhaps octopus-like even.

I didn’t realize how much I needed your 12 Days of Christmas until you started posting them!
