…or oh dear, they plan to pave paradise and build another parking lot.
I just read about this in the News. Oh dear. There is a survey you can complete online at Parks Canada where you can give your opinion on the construction of this monument in Cape Breton. The project will include a huge parking lot, interpretive centre and I suppose the inevitable gift shop. I believe our National Parks are there to preserve nature, not exploit tourism. I do respect the donor’s generosity and have nothing against war memorials but please, put them in cities, not where they will destroy our natural skylines. And that’s my two cents worth. I apologize for making my Blog a platform but sometimes I just need to have my say when issues are dear to my heart.
Feedback must be received by Parks Canada by June 5 so please let them know whether you love the idea or hate it. You know how I feel already.
This is a massive intrusion on the natural beauty of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. I am all for commemorating our war sacrifices but this is just the wrong monument in the wrong place.
