To Build a Boat (Kit) days 8 & 9

…or Factory Work

Not much to show, not much to tell. The last two days have been busy with gluing, pulling the wires which held the planks together, and cleaning up in preparation for fibreglass. I had planned to start yesterday but it was 30 degrees in the shade by the time I was done sanding and vacuuming and thus much too hot to be working with epoxy. It would have set in the cup I daresay. As it was I drank gallons of Gatorade and hand-sanded the inside of the hull until there were no specks to catch the cloth. Today I will secure the tent. It is flimsy and I fear if we get wind or rain all will be lost. At this rate I may have to winterize it – oh for my own store loft. Hey, I have a barn loft!! Might just have to shift up there but it will be a little difficult getting the boat down when it is done and weighs a hundred pounds (heavy for a stitch and glue boat but need the strength because of the rowing unit and it potential for use in open water).

Tomorrow I’m taking the day off to spend time with my daughter before she heads back to university and when I get back I’ll be getting ready for my annual summer party on Saturday night. Never worked harder without a paycheque, never been happier.

But first I think I’ll go for a row.
