Today’s Costume; Intrepid Explorer.

paddles awayOr a leisurely Sunday paddle on the Mersey. For some time I have been keen to carry the kayak down to town and paddle back with the tide. I was a little late getting underway so I caught the tale end of the incoming tide; it helped counteract the current and made for nice paddling until I got close to the dam and the tide changed and I had to gear down and push hard. Not too many rocks to worry about with the tide high. It took me about two hours to get home, which included three short rests and a portage and some time out to take photographs. Are they still called photographs? Pictures? Photos? Pics? Images? Heliographs? We called them ‘snaps’ in Newfoundland when I was a kid. I think I like that best. Here is my adventure in snaps:

Getting ready to launch Lance's Pokeboat at the slipway by Lane's Privateer Inn. This will be the first time I have used my Wheelies to portage. Can someone please design a lifejacket to fit a buxom woman!

The bridge and downtown Liverpool. More like 'backside' Liverpool because these are the backs of the buildings which line Main Street.

Break number one; sip of morning coffee as I watched the traffic on the bridge.

Break number two. This tree could have auditioned for The Lord of the Rings. This was by Pine Grove Park and I could smell the pine trees as I paddles past.

Break number 3. Looking up the Mersey towards home. Still a ways to go yet.

The church at Milton just before the portage around the dam. I regret that we do not hear church bells tolling theses days - it would add much to the beauty.

Home again.

Home again.

Thanks to Rita for telling me about Wheeleez. They worked out well. Next mission: go down the river on the falling tide.
