Winter

Well, today I took a break from the Wii and got my exercise shoveling. It was a lovely snow, much more than they had forecast, of just the right consistency for snow sculpture. Unfortunately we had to drive back to Halifax so no time to play. I did stop to take a few pics.

The rosehips are still haning on and lending a splash of colour to an otherwise dreary landscape.

I am wondering if someone out there can help me. As part of a writing exercise I have been recalling a poster that was found in many of the doctor’s offices in Newfoundland back in the sixties. It was either a calendar or an advertisement for something; possibly medical supplies. It pictured little creatures with pointy teardrop shaped heads and slanty eyes, all bathed in golden light. I believe they were germs or imps or elves of some sort and I think they were always up to some kind of badness. Does anyone else recall seeing these posters? I have Googled everything from imps to medical suppliers to “vintage retro golden imp medical office poster advertising” and then some and have not been able to find anything. Seems to me they were common as dirt back in the day. For those of you who have never left a comment, don’t worry, only I can see your email address; it helps me weed out the spam (I get spam comments for everything from Uggs boots to Viagra, some not even in English) I have asked everyone I work with; only two others recall the posters and they no more clearly than I. I asked a doctor thinking surely he had seen them. Nope. I insulted another doctor by suggesting that he was old enough to have been in a doctor’s office in the early sixties when he wasn’t even born until the eighties. I called home and asked my sister. She responded with “I never went to the doctor when I was small”. My brother gave exactly the same answer. Woe is me, I won’t rest until I see one of these advertisements. For a vaccine? Infection control? Dang those little critters which won’t let me rest.

Hi Judy, I really enjoyed seeing your lovely photos. I know what posters you are talking about. I worked in the hospital in the 80’s and the nuclear medicine department had them on their door. I believe they were calendars, you know the kind with one big poster and you rip the months off. I can’t remember what they were called either, sorry. But the scenes were quite complicated and you could look at them for a long time to see the results of their mischief. I would really like to know what they are called as well. My search of looking for them lead me here.

    Hi Judy
I remember those calendars. I have working in the drug business all my life and I believe there was a pharmaceutical company that used to put them out. For some reason I think the name dingbat was on the calendar somewhere but I can’t remember the company name. I will ask here at work (not that anyone is oldere than me) but one guy is pretty good at remembering those things and I will also check with Kraig. Hope things are well with you and your new hubby.
