Party Prep

The party preparations are rattling along but much more slowly than I had planned due to the hot weather. Who knew that hemming and ironing tablecloths could take a half a day? I’ve decided against making a second dress from scratch and the picture stand with cut-out faces is not likely to happen either but the dough for the forget-me-not cookies is chilling, the bubble maker has been given a trial run, and the popcorn machine and seasonings are packed for transport.

It was Nancy’s idea to sew decorative pennants for the hall. Good one, Nancy, and thanks for helping to cut them out. I have no idea how many yards there are but enough to give a country atmosphere to the hall, I hope.

It would have been overly expensive but I found two large rolls of binding at Value Village and used old sheets and scraps. I see Martha used a similar colour scheme for pennants – nice to t’ink I’m keepin’ up with Martha Stewart!

I’m still gathering prizes for the sucker-pull. Engagement rings from the ‘ring bling’ collection for the ladies (sorry, they are all the one size – my size)

and deck screws for the men, or the ladies for that matter. There’s also my home-made curry powder, rhubarb relish, and random toys to be won. All proceeds to War Amps of Canada.

The cake topper is just waiting for a cake. No, no, we didn’t pose – it was based on one of the wedding photos. In the original Lance was standing but I had to put him in the dinghy because the heat and humidity was making him sag. The weather has not been conducive to fondant sculpture and the whole thing is looking a little limp right now. Lance is propped with a stick which I hope I can remove when I install it, otherwise I’ll have to find a way to incorporate it into the scene. Spare paddle?

The rubber boots still need some work. Obviously, flattery was not my aim.

Lance is practicing his pickin’ – sorry, as far as I know I haven’t invited anyone with an accordion but there might be a banjo if we’re unlucky.

This time next week I’ll be glazing hams and teaching myself new swear words but I still stand by my personal motto: nothing is too much work if there is fun to be had.

Today’s post was brought to you by the letter ‘P’ and the song “Winter Wonderland” which has the line “in the meadow we can build a snowman, We can pretend that he is parson Brown”. When I was really little I thought  it was ‘Parsons’ and that Mrs Brown was asking him to marry her and that it had to do with us Parsons’s and somehow it was our song.
